fieldstudy

another tentative little leap into the world of small studio project blogs.
scarf progress, day one.
i don’t know if i’m knitting this faster than usual because it’s Christmas season and that means list in the shop as much as possible before the 15th or so, or if i’m knitting it much slower than usual because it’s holiday season, but anyway it’s been a nice surprise: i’m spoiled by gentle one-person dye operations where a roving is presumably given its color in an incubator designed to nurture rare fragile baby birds, and it drafts perfectly, but this was pretty stuck at first and i thought i might have to give it up as near-felt. maybe even really felt. massive predrafting was involved, but the yarn and color are making me pretty happy, so it balances out.
(it’s malabrigo nube. i got a few colors to play around with, and i don’t think the drafting stubbornness/stickiness is a problem with all of them. i’ll find out soon.)

hat two: sunset colors.

it’s the first hat of Christmas, da doot doot doot doo doo. winter tea hat features soft fleece-white merino wool and tea-stained silken ribbon. it’s an earflap style bonnet, which to me has a vague vintage feeling even when it ends up with more of a a timeless rustic forest-dryad look. wear it while listening to Icelandic music.
available at http://awkward.etsy.com, for the cold or anyone who knows a cold person and needs a present for them.

a pretty big shop update - brand new handspun yarn!

my favorite (apart from the one i’m knitting): dark purple, brighter purple, blue, gold. self-striping, about 220 yards, which should be more than enough for a basic grown-up hat, or enough for two little kid or baby beanies.
available right now at awkward -
